Tatis Jr. headed for surgery, out up to three months

The San Diego Padres did not get the kind of start to spring training they were hoping for.

General manager A.J. Preller told reporters Monday that star shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. fractured his wrist during the off-season and is headed for surgery.

Fernando Tatis Jr. fractured his wrist during the offseason, A.J. Preller said. He’s headed for a surgery that could come with a recovery time of up to three months.

Preller adds his recovery time could take up to three months, leaving the Padres without their young star potentially into July.

The 23-year-old made the All-Star Team for the first time in his career last season but struggled to stay on the field because of shoulder injuries.

He played 130 games in total but still led the league in home runs with 42. Playing in his third big league season, Tatis slashed .282/.364/.611.
