Tandi McCallum hangs on to Cape Town Ladies Open lead

It was another difficult day at Royal Cape Golf Club, but South African golfer Tandi McCallum hung onto the Cape Town Ladies Open lead on Thursday.

Overnight leader McCallum started her second round with heavy rain as she scored three bogeys in the front nine.

However, the clouds soon lifted with the sun descending as McCallum finished off more decent to post two-under 76 and lead at one-over ahead of Friday's final round.

Everything was a little scrappy today but I had to keep it together," said McCallum after her second round.

"The course had a lot of rain on the course, so the ball was stopping off the tee and green so it was very much target golf.

"The front nine and back nine were two very different, it was still enjoyable but you had to keep your wits about you."

One shot behind McCallum is South African duo Nicole Garcia, Cara Gorlei and England's Thalia Martin at 2-over par.

Gorlei was only one of three golfers who managed to break par as she carded a superb 2-under 72.

Reigning SA Women's Open champion Lee-Anne Pace, fellow countrywoman Lejan Lewthwaite and Norway's Maiken Bing Paulsen are two shots behind McCallum on 3-over.

McCallum is on course to lift her third Sunshine Ladies Tour title and hopes to break the eight-year trophy drought.

"I'm going to try and just keep my strategy the same, I think it's good. The weather is going to be different, so it'll be a lot more sunny and warm," she said.

"And with the south-easterly wind is blowing so it'll be more how we used to the course playing but it's a different course for everyone tomorrow.

"I'm going to play one shot at a time, as cliche as it sounds. It is easier said than done, especially when you've gotten yourself into contention. But I'm going to have fun tomorrow
