T20 World Cup: Team-by-team guide and predictions as England and India bid to take Australia’s crown

England and India are among the teams bidding to take Australia’s crown as the Twenty20 World Cup begins on Sunday.

The eighth edition of the T20 World Cup will be held across Australia and see 16 teams battle it out to become champions in the shortest format of international cricket.

Australia won their maiden T20 World Cup trophy in the United Arab Emirates last year and will attempt to become the first team to defend the title.

A triumph from the hosts would also see Australia become just the second team to win the tournament more than once, following West Indies.

The Super 12 stage will see two groups of six compete to finish in the top two positions and qualify for the semi-finals.

Group A currently consists of Afghanistan, Australia, England and New Zealand, while Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and South Africa are in Group B.

But four more teams will join the Super 12 stage depending on the outcome of a short qualifying round.

Namibia, Netherlands, Sri Lanka and United Arab Emirates are in Group 1 and Ireland, Scotland, West Indies and Zimbabwe make up Group 2.

The winner and runner-up of Group 1 will join Super 12 Group A and the winner and runner-up of Group 2 will join Super 12 Group B.
