Sydney Kings sign former NBA veteran Clark

The Sydney Kings have boosted their NBL playoffs push by signing NBA veteran guard Ian Clark as their third import.

The 30-year-old Clark played 330 games across four clubs in his NBA career, most notably contributing off the bench for the mighty Golden State Warriors team that claimed the 2017 championship.

A shooter and playmaker, the American also played alongside Kings part-owner Andrew Bogut earlier in his career.

Having only arrived on Saturday morning, Clark, who last played for Xinjiang Flying Tigers in China, will be pressed quickly into action for the fifth-placed Kings, suiting up for their clash with Brisbane on Sunday.

He comes into the squad as an injury replacement for forward Jordan Hunter.

"I see this as an opportunity to win. I'm a competitor," said Clark.

"This is one of the first times I'm one of the older guys and I hope I can help add some leadership and value from some of the experiences I've had in my career.

"My skill is shooting but I'm not limited to that, and I see myself as an all-round basketball player."

Clark had a decorated college career, leading Belmont University to three straight NCAA Tournament appearances (2011, 2012, 2013) and went on to play with the Utah Jazz, the Denver Nuggets, Warriors and the New Orleans Pelicans in the NBA.

Kings CEO Chris Pongrass was confident the club had signed a player who can make a difference.

"Recruiting in an unprecedented and quite uncertain free agent market, we made sure we took a very measured approach to find the right player that will help this team win. Ian fits exactly what we were after," Pongrass said.
