Swansea star Paterson locked in contract stand-off with the club

Swansea City striker Jamie Paterson is accusing the club of broken promises as the uncertainty over his future grows.

Paterson is currently training with Swansea's under-23s as a result of the unrest over his contract situation.

The 30-year-old, who joined Swansea on a free transfer in the summer, is the among the lowest paid players among Russell Martin's starting line-up.

Paterson signed a one-year deal upon his arrival at Swansea and was promised fresh terms after making a stunning impact at the club during the first half of the season.

The skilful attacker scored eight goals and provided four assists in 21 Championship games, prompting the Welsh club to trigger a one-year contract extension earlier this month.

Paterson is unhappy that the club have not kept to their promise to give him an improved contract as reward for his outstanding performances for the team.

Queens Park Rangers are understood to have had two bids rejected by Swansea for Paterson, while Huddersfield Town and Blackburn Rovers are also interested in the player but the club have so refused to listen to offers.

Former Bristol City livewire Paterson has not played for Swansea this year, last featuring when Nottingham Forest visited on December 11.

Manager Russell Martin has said he has a good relationship with Paterson, who has missed all three of the Swans' Championship matches since then.

Second-top scorer Paterson's early-season purple patch included a run of four goals in five appearances in September and October.

It remains to be seen if the unsettled forward will be allowed to leave Swansea before the close of the transfer window.
