Swansea City 3-0 Preston: Impressive Swans march to comfortable first league win

Swansea City secured their first Championship win of the season with a comfortable 3-0 victory over managerless Preston North End at the Swansea.com Stadium.

Matt Grimes netted his first goal of the season from the spot to get the hosts up and running, before Azeem Abdulai came off the bench to double the lead midway inside the second half.

Preston had won just one of their last nine visits to the Swansea.com Stadium before this encounter - and that seldom looked like changing during a superb afternoon for Luke Williams and his side.

Summer signing Zan Vipotnik even came off the bench to put the contest to bed with his first Swansea goal late on, adding gloss to a tremendous afternoon at the office.

Tuesday night's Carabao Cup win over Gillingham had already gone some way to remedying the disappointment of what was a flat opening day defeat at the hands of Middlesbrough last weekend. This win will have arguably gone even further.

Admittedly, having been staved off by the signing of Vipotnik 16 days ago, the anxiety over Swansea's transfer dealings remains pronounced heading into the final couple of weeks of the window.

However, this performance will have surely injected a healthy, and much-needed, dose of optimism about the campaign ahead, while perhaps also demonstrating the promising foundation Williams has already laid down in south Wales.

The Swans boss made two changes from the opening day defeat at the Riverside. Ronald, fresh from his dazzling performance in midweek, was handed his first league start of the season, and wasted little time in impressing again, curling an effort into the arms of former Swan Freddie Woodman after just two minutes.

Emil Riis forced Lawrence Vigouroux into a smart save at the other end
