Swansea City 2-1 Blackpool: Sorinola strike and Connolly own goal earn Russell Martin's men victory over 10-man Seasiders

Swansea City returned to winning ways as they defeated Blackpool 2-1 to cut the gap to the Championship's play-off places to just five points.

Russell Martin's men dominated the opening half at the Swansea.com Stadium and went ahead through what was Matty Sorinola's second goal of the season in the 21st minute.

Mick McCarthy's side showed fighting spirit though, and after having Charlie Patino sent off, they equalised through Sonny Carey with 20 minutes remaining. But Callum Connolly turned Sorinola's cross into his own net three minutes later as the Swans earned a win to reignite their top six hopes.

Russell Martin made three changes to the side that started against Sheffield United on Saturday. Harry Darling, Sorinola and Luke Cundle came in for Kyle Naughton, Olivier Ntcham and Liam Cullen as the Swans switched to a back three for the visit of the Seasiders who went into the match without a win in their last 13 league outings.

Connolly's yellow card for handball inside the opening seconds typified what was to be a lively start to proceedings, with Joel Piroe and Cundle both having efforts early on as McCarthy's troops operated largely on the counter attack.

The Swans were in full control of the contest though, and they took the lead midway through the first-half with a move that epitomised the style of the current coaching staff.

Goalkeeper Andy Fisher played his part as the hosts went from back to front, and Sorinola, on his first league start since late December, volleyed Ryan Manning's cross beyond Chris Maxwell.
