A hyperbolic statement, maybe, but that was the sort of gallows humour being bandied around the Swans support as they filed out of the Swansea.com Stadium after this gut-wrenching defeat.

The sucker punch of Caspar De Norre's late winner compounded what was another deeply frustrating afternoon for the Swans, who have also now gone nearly nine hours of Championship football without scoring.

This latest attempt had an air of familiarity about it. The standard of the performance was hardly faultless, but Luke Williams will certainly feel like his side created enough to end what is now Swansea's worst goal drought since February 1996.

Had his side managed to at least hold on to a point, it might well have given some positives to cling on to. To come away with nothing, however, only further magnifies the issues within a squad many feel is lacking a real attacking spark right now.

The defeat leaves Swansea 17th in the table ahead of next weekend's trip to Oxford United, which now looks a pivotal clash for Williams, who was subjected to boos from what little remained of the home crowd at full-time.

The mood was already tetchy heading into this one. After all, Swansea came into this clash having not scored in 435 minutes of football, their worst goal drought since April 2021 when Steve Cooper's men went 492 minutes without finding the net.

Coincidentally, the class of 2021 picked themselves up with a 3-0 win over, yes, you guessed it, Millwall.
