Sven Botman hailed as one of the best signings of the transfer window so far

Danny Murphy believes that Newcastle United signing centre-back Sven Botman is one of the best signings of the summer transfer window so far.

Speaking in an interview with Mirror Sport, the former Liverpool and England midfielder outlined the Dutchman as one of his favourite signings of the summer. Murphy, who also named Arsenal's Gabriel Jesus and Liverpool's new striker Darwin Nunez as two of his other favourite transfers, believes the Toon army will enjoy watching the 22-year-old defender.

“I think the centre half Newcastle have signed, Botman, is a good player," said Murphy. "I think the fans are really going to enjoy him."

"He’s somebody I’ve seen a fair bit of, he’s a footballing centre half, loves coming out with the ball and a good passer of the ball. Very good technically but also has that physical presence that you need as a centre half. I think the Newcastle fans are going to take to him, that’s a good signing."

Botman's arrival from LOSC Lille was announced on July 1, with the Magpies fighting off competition from a host of European sides for his signature. So far this summer, Newcastle have also added goalkeeper Nick Pope and left-back Matt Targett to their squad.
