Suranne Jones returns to Manchester as she takes over shop to film scenes for new show

Suranne Jones has been seen in Chorlton this week as she films scenes for a new rom-com which she will star in alongside a popular Netflix star.

The former Coronation Street star, who hails from Chadderton in Oldham, is set to appear in a new six-part show called Film Club which has been co-written by and will also co-star Sex Education actress Aimee Lou Wood and House of the Dragon’s Ralph Davis.

Described as a ‘witty and emotional show about love and family’, the BBC series will also feature Kaos actor Nabhaan Rizwaan and Happy Valley star Adam Long.

Filming for the show began this week with Suranne, who has also appeared in shows like Vigil and Doctor Foster, appearing on location in Chorlton. On Tuesday (November 19), the actress filmed scenes at beloved independent supermarket Unicorn, on Albany Road.

In the series, Suranne will take on the ‘eccentric and unconventional’ role of Suz, the mother of Aimee’s Evie. Sporting short hair, she was pictured in thigh-high leather boots and an embroidered cardigan inside the organic store.

Suranne said of her involvement in the show: “I’ve loved Aimee for a while now and think she is a beautifully real, honest and brilliantly funny talent, so it was no surprise the script she and Ralph Davis have created was the same.

“It’s smart, sweet and punchy. I can’t wait to be her tiger mum... and I get to film in my home town too.”

Meanwhile, Aimee, who recently filmed BBC comedy series Daddy Issues in her Stockport hometown alongside David Morrissey, was also pictured filming scenes elsewhere in Chorlton.

The 29-year-old, who will also be seen on screen in the third season of HBO hit White Lotus next
