SuperSport United star striker Bradley Grobler ruled out for the rest of the season

SuperSport United have suffered a blow with star striker Bradley Grobler being ruled out for the rest of the season.

Last season's Golden Boot winner is to undergo surgery for an unspecified injury, confirms SuperSport CEO Stan Matthews.

"We were still waiting for the full scans and diagnosis, but the early indications are that he is going to require surgery and he is definitely out for a long period of time and looking at the season and the way it is, we are not going to rush him back and squeeze him into two or three games this season," Matthews told Soccer Laduma.

"We've got to try now and make sure that he has a full season next year and be a contributor for us, so for these games now, we have got to take the view that he has to do his rehab properly and have his surgery.

"In terms of how quickly he can be back, we haven't gotten an indication from the surgeon, but it is not looking good, and we are not gonna rush Bradley back, and it is something we have to deal with as a club."

SuperSport restart their campaign next week Wednesday in a Nedbank Cup Round of 32 encounter against Maritzburg United.

Kick-off is at 18:00.
