Supercars driver Jack Perkins reveals why this year’s Supercars season will be ‘unmissable’

Supercars driver Jack Perkins has detailed why this year’s season will be unmissable ahead of the action roaring back to life at this weekend’s Sydney SuperNight.

Perkins declared the excitement of Supercars would hit new heights in the 2022 season as the famous Holden v Ford rivalry comes to an end, alongside the current generation of cars.

“In terms of the cars, this season is actually the last year of the current generation of cars,” Perkins told 7NEWS.com.au.

“These are what we call Gen2, which is the Ford Mustang and the Holden ZB Commodore.

“This is the last year we’re going to run with them and next year we’re bringing in a brand new Gen3, where we farewell Holden and we welcome Chevrolet to the category.

“We’re going to have Chevrolet Camaro versus Ford Mustang.

“That’s going to make for a huge talking point because this is the last year of Holden versus Ford on the racetrack in Australia, which is something worth celebrating given the rich history of Holden, but it’s also very sad as well given Holden has played such an important part in Australia’s history.

“Holden has touched nearly every family in Australia, whether you owned a Holden, worked for Holden or hated Holden, it’s an end of an era this year and I hope it’s a celebration throughout the course of the season.”

But while the Holden Commodore era is coming to a close, Perkins predicted the car would have plenty of success in season 2022.

The Channel 7 Supercars presenter said he expected Holden’s Shane van Gisbergen to take out his third drivers’ championship this year, while other Holden teams were also primed for huge seasons.
