Super Rugby Pacific highlights: Chiefs beat Waratahs to set up Crusaders semi-final
They were impressive right from the start, kicking an early penalty through Bryn Gatland before Brad Weber went over.
Although the visitors responded via Dylan Pietsch’s excellently taken try and Tane Edmed’s three-pointer, the New Zealanders were 27-10 ahead at the break as Luke Jacobson and Alex Nankivell touched down.
Will Harris did give the Tahs hope at the beginning of the second period, combining with Michael Hooper for a superb coast-to-coast effort, but they just weren’t quite good enough.
The Australians have enjoyed a much-improved campaign, having gone through 2021 winless, but the Chiefs were ultimately too powerful.
Weber crossed the whitewash to complete his brace and effectively finish off the Australians’ chances before Pita Gus Sowakula confirmed their passage into the Super Rugby semi-finals, where they will face the Crusaders.
