Following their defeat by England in the round of 16 at the ongoing FIFA Women’s World in Australia and New Zealand, which denied each player of the Super Falcons opportunity of pocketing $90,000 (N67.6 million), the players have turned their attention to recovering backlog of allowances and bonuses from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), which date to 2021.

World players union, FIFPRO, yesterday, confirmed that they were helping the girls in their dispute with the NFF over bonuses, camp allowances and expenses, some of which date back to 2021.

The camp bonuses and allowances’issue came up in the Super Falcons’ camp shortly after the team arrived in Brisbane for their final preparations for the World Cup. Theplayers even threatened to boycott their first game against Canada if things did not change. The team captain, Onome Ebi, soon denied such threat, claiming that the team was focused on the World Cup assignment.

However, the bonus row seems to have returned to the Super Falcons. A member of the team told www.234sportsng.com that the general feeling in the team’s camp is how to recover the backlogs of allowances and bonuses from the NFF. The official also confirmed the involvement of FIFPRO in the issue.

FIFPRO’s statement said the players were frustrated by the nonpayment of their allowances and bonuses, adding that the ugly development has become a recurring issue.

The union stated that it is regrettable that players needed to challenge their federation at such an important time in their careers and promise to work with the players to ensure their contractual rights are honoured and the outstanding payments are settled.
