Super Bowl 2022 halftime show makes history with first ever all-rap performance

Talk about one for the ages.

Some of the biggest names in rap - Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar - made history as the first rap headliners for the Super Bowl halftime show.

The Super Bowl is live and free on Seven and 7plus.

As the Los Angeles Rams took a slim 13-10 lead over the Cincinnati Bengals, the event many fans were waiting for kicked off at Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium: the Super Bowl LVI halftime show.

Some of the biggest stars included included Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar.

The stage looked completely different this year, featuring a high row of white platformed boxes and a viewing experience more intimate than ever before.

The artists were constantly on the move, walking between the different sets and in a new change, interacted more than usual with the cameras.

Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg opened the show with The Next Episode, closely followed by California Love, where the pair performed on top of one set, with several classic white convertibles parked in front.

50 Cent made a surprise appearance with In Da Club before Mary J. Blige sang her Family Affair.

Kendrick Lamar performed M.A.A.D City that led to Eminem’s Mom’s Spaghetti and Lose Yourself.

Mary J. Blige was the only one of the five to have experienced performing at halftime, taking the stage back in 2001 when she was featured alongside Britney Spears and Nelly as the special guests of headliners Aerosmith and NSYNC.

Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and Lamar, meanwhile, made their midgame debuts.

The performance somewhat centered around icon Dr. Dre, as the four other headliners have collaborated with Dre, with three of the performers all showing up on Dre’s album 2001.
