Sunday Social: Rugby mourns and Six Nations resumes as Ben Youngs breaks record

The rugby world is mourning. A touching tribute for Va’aiga Tuigamala who tragically passed away this week. Also known as “Inga the winger”, Tuigamala was a popular figure in rugby across both codes, notably winning the Premiership with Newcastle Falcons and Wasps. Rest easy Va’aiga.

Former Wallaby Tim Horan paid a tribute of his own to Tuigamala likening him to the great Jonah Lomu.

So sad to hear the passing of Va'aiga Tuigamala. Inga was Jonah before Jonah arrived. Jonah & Inga where the 2 players in the All Blacks you never wanted to see with the ball. Thoughts and prayers from the Rugby family. pic.twitter.com/Qc6Epaq4We

The rugby world lost another great this week as New Zealand flyer Joeli Vidiri also passed away. Fijian-born Vidiri paved the way for modern day All Black greats such as Joe Rokocoko, Sitiveni Sivivatu, Waisake Naholo and Sevu Reece. Rest in peace, Joeli.

Before Rokocoko, before Sivivatu, before Naholo, Reece…

there was VIDIRI.

The Blues paid tribute to Vidiri after his passing. A genuine superstar for the Auckland-based outfit and his outstanding record speaks for itself.

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Joeli Vidiri, aged 48.

G.O.A.T is used frequently these days, more than it should. In the case of Joeli the title truly fits. One of the greatest players of all time.

62 games, 43 tries & 2 Titles.
