‘Strong suspicion’ Arsenal will make move for €40m Liverpool target

According to reports, Dutch outfit PSV have a ‘strong suspicion’ that Arsenal will look to sign their attacker Cody Gakpo during the summer transfer window.

It was reported earlier this month that Arsenal and Liverpool were ‘accelerating their interest’ in the winger.

The 22-year-old progressed through the academy at PSV and he made his first-team debut for them during the 2017/18 campaign.

Gakpo has been a standout player for the Dutch outfit over the past couple of seasons.

The Dutchman is currently enjoying his best campaign to date on a personal level. He has grabbed eight goals and 13 assists from his 20 league outings.

Eindhovens Dagblad (via Sport Witness) are reporting that PSV have a ‘strong suspicion’ that Arsenal will look to seal a deal for Gakpo.

It is expected that the transfer will break PSV’s record sale. A fee of around €40m for Gakpo is said to be ‘absolutely feasible’.

The report argues that Arsenal would be an ‘excellent route’ for the youngster to go down.

Elsewhere, Arsenal defender Ben White says it was “not a nice feeling” to be “singled out” for criticism by Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher.

The centre-back got off to a difficult start at the Emirates Stadium. But he has got better and better as the season has progressed.

Neville and Carragher were critical of the Arsenal defender’s performance in a 2-0 defeat to Brentford earlier in the season and their words shocked White as he’d never been “singled out” before.
