Stricken dog saved from lake after clinging to bank overnight

A dog has been rescued from a Lancashire lake after clinging to a wooden structure for safety overnight.

The German Shepherd was spotted clinging for dear life on the banks of Fairhaven Lake early this morning (March 25). Police in the area rushed to saved the stricken mutt, along with Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, and help from members of the public.

The dog is said to be safe and well and has been handed over to the local RSPCA. It is being cared for by The Veterinary Health Centre and the owner of the dog will need to provide proof that it belongs to them, LancsLive reports. .

A spokesperson for Fylde Police said: "We are aware of the incident circulating on social media about a dog (German Shepherd) that was stuck in the water at Fairhaven Lake this morning and had been in the water all night.

"We can confirm that the dog was rescued by our colleagues from Lancs Fire & Rescue along with several members of the public which was a fantastic result.
