What is the most bizarre yet outrageous penalty ever scored in football?

It’s a question without an answer set in stone, with the beautiful game witnessing a never ending number of innovative spot kicks that range from weird to wonderful.

However, we think we might just have found a number one contender, officially worthy of taking the crown for the time being, down in Portugal’s second tier.

For a penalty to be dubbed ‘the most outrageous ever’ it has to be pretty damn good. Fear not, for this contender is exactly that.

When you think of outrageous spot kicks, the competition is high.

Jorginho likes to bamboozle goalkeepers with his ridiculously late stutter, and the likes of Andrea Pirlo and Antonin Panenka were capable of sending ‘keepers to the shops with chipped efforts.

But while they are great from a technical standpoint, they’re becoming rather tiresome, in truth.

Stutters, dinks, feints, we’ve seen it all before. We need a creative mastermind to step up and turn the penalty world on its head with something the game has never seen before. Something so bizarre that very few could pull it off, or wouldn’t even dare to try.

Step forward Jardel, of Portuguese second tier outfit CD Feirense.

In action against Leixoes in Liga Portugal 2, Feirense were trailing 1-0 at half-time and needed some inspiration to get back into the game.

After 65 minutes, they were back on level terms after Jardel came up with the goods from a spot kick. And by goods, we mean absolutely obscene levels of good.

So good, in fact, that the forward’s penalty has done the rounds on Twitter via @nocontextfooty. But don’t just take out word for it – check the video out for yourself below.
