Stones returns but Walker misses out in Man City predicted team to face Aston Villa

Pep Guardiola says Kyle Walker and John Stones will be assessed on Sunday morning to see if they can play in Manchester City's title decider against Aston Villa.

City know that three points against Villa will secure them the title, with anything less giving Liverpool the chance to overtake them. Guardiola urged his players to only focus on the opposition in front of them at the Etihad, and try not to think about any larger thoughts regarding the title or what happens at Liverpool.

Still, Guardiola also acknowledged that his side will have to be fully focussed and at full strength to get a win against a good Villa side, so he could look to recall one of his returning defenders.

With Joao Cancelo and Aleks Zinchenko both fine full-back options, there is less need to rush Walker back if not fully fit, so he may have to settle for a role on the bench. For Stones, though, Guardiola is always keen to have a right-footer at centre-back, so the England defender could be more likely to start alongside Aymeric Laporte.

Ederson is an obvious pick in goal, with the midfield also straightforward in terms of who starts. Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva are surely in line to play - although one of Bernardo or De Bruyne could be asked to push further up as they do in the big Champions League games.

Guardiola will look for experience on Sunday, and mentioned about having the right attitude if things start going wrong. For that reason, Ilkay Gundogan could offer some much-needed calmness in midfield, with one of his central colleagues used as the false nine.
