Stone Cold Steve Austin: Hall of Famer pays tribute to WrestleMania crowd

Stone Cold Steve Austin made an emotional return to the ring on Saturday night as he main evented night one of WrestleMania.

In the final segment of the night Austin guested on the KO Show, and was quickly challenged to a match by host Kevin Owens. Accepting his proposal, the 57-year-old dusted those mudholes off one more time and beat KO in his first official match for nineteen years.

Speaking backstage after the momentous moment, Austin commented on the match and paid tribute to his home crowd in Dallas.

You just love the crowd, you love the crowd, the guys and gals before me had so many great matches. It’s really hard to follow that, but you live and die by that crowd. This crowd is so faithful, so loyal, so rambunctious, they’re behind everything you do. I give a shout out to the WWE superstars that worked before me and will work tomorrow night, but I give the biggest shout out to the crowd because I never expected to headline a WrestleMania at this day and time. It’s all about the WWE Universe.

During the initial interview on The KO show Austin referenced that his first-ever wrestling match was in Dallas and that it would be fitting if his last is in the same city, too. And The Hall of Famer said it was an honour to be part of the show.

This is where I started and I was lucky enough to finish here. KO is outstanding, but he ran his mouth a little too much and it finally caught up with him. It was an honor to be here on such a stacked card with so many great matches.

Stay tuned to GiveMeSport for all the results and reaction from night two of WrestleMania 38 tonight, which is headlined by the huge title vs. title unification match between Universal Champion Roman Reigns and the WWE Champion Brock Lesnar.
