Stoke 0-1 Bristol City: Chaotic brawl had fans in stitches

A dull end of season affair between two sides with little to play for was lit up by a bizarre tussle that has fans in stitches across social media.

Neither team had much to play for heading into the clash. Stoke occupied 15th spot in the table whilst Bristol City sat slightly further back in 18th.

Relegation was no longer a realistic factor for either team and so the game was set to be a pretty uninspiring affair that would have summed up the kind of season both clubs had endured.

And for the most part it shaped up that way…

There was just seven total shots on target across the 90 minutes, and the score remained 0-0 right the way through until an attempted cross by Jay Dasilva in the 86th wrong-footed goalkeeper Jack Bonham and hit the back of the net.

It was hardly vintage football and fans probably didn’t get their money’s worth. Unless, of course, they wanted to go and watch some WWE… and if that was the case, they got value in abundance.

After Stoke pumped a long ball forward that was slightly overhit, Bristol City goalkeeper David Bentley was content to let the ball roll out for a goal-kick.

But Jacob Brown had other ideas and pursued Bentley, forcing the keeper to shield the ball with more aggression.

The ball went out, yet the scuffle continued between the two opponents and Brown ended up pinned against the advertising boards with his arm around Bentley’s neck.

It seemed for a brief second like the pair are going to leave it given there is nowhere else to go, until they ended up rolling over the ad boards like a pair of UFC fighters grappling for a submission.

The fans cheered as the violence began to heat up further, before sets of players from both teams ran in to split up the brawl.
