Stockport County's return to the Football League recognised in Parliament

Stockport County’s return to the Football League has officially been recognised in Parliament. A motion, from the club’s MP Navendu Mishra, has been put forward in Parliament to congratulate Dave Challinor and his squad on winning the National League.

The Hatters achieved promotion with a 2-0 win over Halifax Town last Sunday, sparking wild celebrations at Edgeley Park. Now, having received support from Deputy Labour leader Angela Rayner, Rochdale MP Tony Lloyd, and Conservative Hazel Grove MP William Wragg, Mr Mishra has recognised the achievement in the House of Commons.

The Early Day Motion also paid tribute to the recent deal that was struck between club owner Mark Stott and Stockport Council to agree a 250-year lease on Edgeley Park.

“Stockport County’s promotion back to the Football League brought a smile to so many faces amid so much uncertainty across the country,” Mr Mishra said. “The Hatters have made the whole town proud and my thanks go to manager Dave Challinor, the players, and all the club staff for this wonderful achievement. I’m already looking forward to seeing them play in League Two next season!”

The full motion in full reads: “That this House congratulates Stockport County Football Club on their promotion back to the Football League after an 11-year absence; pays tribute to manager Dave Challinor and his players for their role in helping the club win the National League title; recognises the efforts of all staff at the club and their contribution towards helping Stockport County FC secure promotion; acknowledges the legacy of former manager Danny Bergara, who was the first manager born outside the British
