Stewart hails 'special win' for Ulster over Munster

Ulster captain Tom Stewart hailed his side's comeback win as they overcame an 11-point deficit to claim the BKT URC spoils against Munster.

Trailing 14-8 at the break with Jacob Stockdale's five-pointer clawing back a brace from Craig Casey, two penalties from Nathan Doak and a try from Nick Timoney, saw them claim their third win of the season and move up to second in the table.

"That was a really special win from the boys," hooker Stewart told RTÉ Sport after the 21-14 victory in Belfast.

"Super defence at the end to finish it off.

"That’s what interpros are all about, they’re tight games, you are playing the best teams in the league and we’re delighted to get away with that one

"I think we showed out there what our attack can look like at its best.

"It’s free-flowing, it’s exciting, we create a lot of options and open a lot of holes and we just need to start taking some of them and we’ll be working on that."

Ulster’s bench made a big impact. Academy prop Scott Wilson on his debut, and Rob Herring, making a record 230th appearance for the province, came on in the 51st minute and both made decisive plays.

Prop Wilson broke the line and then was at the heart of a scrum effort that led to Timoney’s winner, while Ireland hooker Herring made two big defensive plays at the death as Munster threatened to snatch a draw.

"Delighted for Scottie and Rob," said Stewart.

"Unbelievable achievement for both of them. Scott to make his first cap and Rob to be the most capped Ulsterman of all time. It’s a credit to them both.

"They both played a big role in that win tonight and they can both be very proud."
