Steven Gerrard 'undecided' on Aston Villa transfer dilemma

Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard remains 'undecided' regarding whether or not he should sanction investment on a new striker this summer.

Villa have been heavily linked with strikers throughout the window with names such as Luis Suarez, Jonathan David and most recently Espanyol's Raúl de Tomás. However, with Ollie Watkins, Danny Ings, Cameron Archer and Keinan Davis all within the first team squad touring Australia currently, doubts have now been cast over the necessity of this transfer pursuit if outgoings do not occur.

Both Archer and Davis enjoyed successful loan moves to the Championship in the second half of last season, which saw the duo score a combined 12 goals across 32 starts, with Gerrard believed to be keen to analyse the two across the friendlies in Australia before making a decision regarding their immediate futures in claret and blue.

During a Q&A with Villa fans, reporter Ashley Preece provided an update on Villa's pursuit of a striker whilst highlighting how Gerrard remains 'undecided' on whether or not to invest in the position this summer. He said: "SG [Steven Gerrard] still undecided whether to bolster his options up front. Outgoings, yes, SG told me squad is bloated so he'll look to fine-tune it."
