Steven Gerrard set for Sawiris and Edens meeting as boss explains Aston Villa system change

Steven Gerrard will sit down with owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens to chew over Aston Villa's shortcomings following back-to-back defeats to West Ham and Arsenal. The billionaire duo were sat in the Trinity Road Stand earlier as Bukayo Saka's first-half strike sealed a 1-0 win for Arsenal.

Speaking to , Gerrard said: "I'll definitely go and see them now. I'm not sure how much time they've got or how much time I'll spend with them.

"There's definitely a connection on a daily basis, the relationships from top to bottom. We're all aligned and are always in touch. I'm disappointed that we couldn't put a better performance in for them today.

"I really fancied us, with the week we've had coming into this game, and with Arsenal having a challenging game against Liverpool. I expected an awful lot more from us in the first half. That's the biggest frustration for me."

Gerrard, meanwhile, made three changes to his line-up today and brought Emi Buendia back in for Danny Ings. On that decision, Gerrard added: "Look, we tried to change it a little bit tactically. Danny and Calum (Chambers) have been mentioning a few little niggles they've got so we decided to do something differently today.

"I don't think there's anything wrong with what we were trying to do but we just didn't execute it and that was down to a lack of belief. Too much respect and being passive for 45 minutes. Once we changed that mindset and once, collectively and individually we took the handbrake off, we were a better team and caused Arsenal some problems.

"We at least put pressure on their back four. We at least put crosses into their box, we looked like we could have sneaked something from the game. Second half we were second best."
