Steven Gerrard could swoop on Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp told to sell Aston Villa transfer target

Aston Villa could benefit as Stan Collymore has tipped Liverpool to sell up to four first team players this summer in order to compete with the likes of Manchester City in their spending.

Collymore has stated in his latest column for The Mirror that he believes Divock Origi, Takumi Minamino, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Joe Gomez could depart Anfield this summer.

Collymore said: "Selling Origi and Ox may not be such a surprise, but I'm not convinced Gomez or Minamino have a lot to offer the Reds anymore.

"Konate is way ahead of the injury prone Gomez and Luis Diaz already adds to a forward line that's arguably the best on earth.

"If Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp are going to keep pace with £100m signings potentially across Manchester City, Chelsea or Manchester United, every little helps, and Liverpool can't afford passengers."

Villa were linked heavily with a move for Gomez in the January transfer window and have been tipped to reignite their interest once the summer transfer window opens.

Origi has also been linked with a move to Villa in the past, with Chris Sutton instructing the player to make the move in the most recent window.

He outlined: “You want to play. I’m not saying he could go to Chelsea, I’m not saying he could go to an Arsenal.

“An Aston Villa, a Norwich City, where he would play regularly. A team like that where he could play week in, week out.”

Steven Gerrard may also be in the market for a versatile midfielder such as Oxlade-Chamberlain, with the current situations regarding the futures of Morgan Sanson, Douglas Luiz and Carney Chukwuemeka all looking unclear.
