Steven Gerrard agrees with Ian Wright about Aston Villa after Watford defeat

Arsenal legend Ian Wright thinks Aston Villa head coach Steven Gerrard will be worried about his side's poor run of form in the Premier League.

Villa have won just one game this calendar year and were condemned to their fourth defeat since the New Year against Watford on Saturday, as Roy Hodgson's men claimed their first league victory since November at Villa Park.

Emmanuel Dennis' goal in the second half was all that separated the two teams as the Hornets went on to do the double over Villa this season.

And Wright claims Gerrard will be disappointed that results and performances over the past few weeks have left a lot to be desired.

"They probably expected more than the one point against Brentford, Leeds, Newcastle and Watford and in their next nine, seven are against some top sides," Wright said on Match of the Day.

"So that will be a little bit of a worry for him, he's taken it on board and he's got to get them going, and they've got to get going pretty quick."

Gerrard was also keen to get across his frustration at Villa's performance against Watford and has demanded a quick response.

“We’re at home, we need to be more exciting than that, we need to create more and score more," Gerrard said after the 1-0 defeat.

“We knew that they’d carry a threat on the counter-attack, so we’re not surprised by what Watford brought to the game.

“This is very much on me and us. We need to improve fast.

“We’ve played three teams below us in the last three games and we’ve taken one point, that’s not good enough,” he said.

“That’s on me. I realise that things need to change, we need to improve and we need to do it fast.

“We have to face the music and move on.”
