Steve Cooper offers his verdict on Jack Colback’s Nottingham Forest wonder-strike
Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper has spoken out on Jack Colback’s wonder strike against West Bromwich Albion last night.
Forest were 4-0 victors over the Baggies in the Easter Monday fixture, with Brennan Johnson, Ryan Yates, Sam Surridge and Colback on the scoresheet.
It was Colback’s strike, and Forest’s third, that caught the eye though, with the makeshift left-wing-back scoring an outstanding volley from down by the corner flag.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Forest boss Cooper backed Colback as having meant to do it.
“If he says it then I’ll go along with that as well,” Cooper said, via Sky Sports, when told Colback had said it was a deliberate goal.
“It was great to see it go in that’s for sure.”
The wonder strike was only Colback’s third goal of the season, with the natural midfielder having spent the vast majority of his 34 Championship appearances this campaign playing in the left-wing-back role.
Cooper though, was glowing in his reference of the 32-year-old.
“Jack can maybe go a little bit under the radar, he’s a midfield player filling in on the left for us and does the job really well.” Cooper continued.
“He’s an excellent professional, he’s a really good guy, offers a lot to the team beyond being the player that he is and we’re really fond of him here.”
What a strike it was by Jack Colback.
To attempt that from such an angle seems outrageous, but given the power he put behind it, it’s possible that he did actually mean it.
Whether or not he did is irrelevant really, as it ended up going in and will certainly go down as one of the goals of the season.
It also happened to help Forest along with getting the three points too, which is a bonus.
Following the result, The Reds are now sitting fifth in
