Steve Clarke faces mounting Scotland injury woes as Scott McKenna drops out of Poland clash

Nottingham Forrest boss Steve Cooper has revealed centre-back Scott McKenna will miss Scotland's upcoming friendly against Poland on Thursday.

McKenna has been a stand out for the Championship outfit this season and would have been in contention to start against Poland but limped off during Forest's 3-1 win over QPR in midweek.

Cooper told the Nottingham Post: “He’s got a hamstring problem and is going to be out for four to five weeks."

The injury creates a conundrum for Steve Clarke who's initial squad already featured a lack of natural centre-backs with regular Liam Cooper already missing out due to injury.

John Souttar, who started the last international clash with Denmark, also missed out on the squad after picking up a knock for Hearts.

This leaves Grant Hanley and Jack Hendry as the only other options left in Clarke's squad to face Robert Lewandowski and co.

Cooper added: "It’s a blow for Scott, because everyone has seen he’s been having an outstanding season for us, so for it to be stopped in its tracks is disappointing for him, more than anything. But hopefully he’ll be back sooner rather than later."

Clarke may well call-up reinforcements before Thursday's clash at Hampden with David Marshall and Lyndon Dykes also set to be ruled out.

The Scotland goalkeeper had hoped to re-establish himself as his nation's number one but picked up a hamstring injury days after being recalled back into the international squad.

While Dykes has been struggling with injury and hasn't featured for his club since February.
