Steve Bruce teases West Brom summer plans for Daryl Dike and 3 others

West Bromwich Albion boss Steve Bruce has revealed plans to set up a summer training camp with a view to helping injured players Kean Bryan, Daryl Dike, Matt Phillips, and Kenneth Zohore prepare for next season. 

All four players have struggled with injury issues this season with Phillips the only one likely to feature in the final stages of the 2021/22 campaign.

There has been speculation about the future of all four players but it seems Bruce only has one thing on his mind – getting them ready for next term.

Speaking to the Express&Star, the West Brom boss revealed his summer plans for the squad with particular emphasis on how it would impact Bryan, Dike, Phillips, and Zohore.

He said: “Pre-season is going to be crucial.

“I’m going to set up a training camp, maybe Portugal. I’ve done it before – I’ve set up a training camp so that they can have a holiday.

“From 10am to 1pm they’re still ours, rather than coming to the training ground where there’s nobody here for five-and-a half weeks.

“I know the facilities. So we’ll set up a bit of a camp, but those four in particular (Dike, Zohore, Phillips, Bryan) will have a pre-pre-season.

“It’s a bit of a busman’s for the physios and medical department, where they can have a bit of a busman’s holiday as well. It works well.

“It’ll be probably about two-and-a-half weeks before we come back and then we’re back early – end of June. We’re back early next season because of the World Cup.”

Dike signed from Charlotte FC on a permanent deal in January as former boss Valerien Ismael looked for a forward focal point but has managed just two appearances for his club due to a hamstring issue – and has drawn links to Ismael’s new club Besiktas.
