Steve Bruce linked to exciting reunion with Newcastle United duo

West Brom boss Steve Bruce is targeting summer moves for Newcastle United duo Dwight Gayle and Sean Longstaff, according to reports.

The former Magpies boss has had a difficult start to life in the West Midlands. West Brom currently sit ninth in the Championship table, however, enjoyed an impressive win over table-toppers Fulham during the week. Now, Bruce has been linked with a move for his former Newcastle players once the summer window opens.

As reported by The Mirror, West Brom are interested in bringing Longstaff and Gayle to The Hawthorns.

Longstaff is already in danger of leaving Newcastle for free once the campaign has ended. Boss Eddie Howe has expressed his intentions to keep the midfielder at the club, however a new deal is yet to be signed.

Gayle is well known to be a lethal threat inside the Championship. Having already spent a year with West Brom, fans will no doubt be excited at the prospect of a reunion.

During the 2018/19 season Gayle played 40 Championship games for the Baggies, scoring 24 and assisting a further two more.

But since returning to Newcastle, the 32-year-old has failed to make an impression in the top flight.

Gayle has made just six appearances this campaign across all competitions, failing to find the back of the net.

Longstaff has also fallen down the pecking order in recent months. The 24-year-old  has featured just 18 times in the league, with the majority coming from off the bench.

Following the takeover of Newcastle, it would be no surprise to see a number of players exit in summer to make way for fresh signings.

And it seems Bruce is keen on reuniting with some former players, as he hopes to bring West Brom back to the Premier League.
