Star man Ruairí Canavan crowned U20 Player of the Year

Tyrone's Ruairí Canavan has been crowned U20 Gaelic footballer of the Year after a stellar season in which his brilliance inspired the Ulster champions to their sixth All-Ireland title at the grade.

Canavan, son of Tyrone great Peter and younger brother of 2021 All-Ireland winner Darragh, scored 1-34 across five championship games.

After accounting for 0-07 of Tyrone's 11-point haul in their narrow Ulster final win over Cavan, Canavan really took wing in the All-Ireland series, notching 0-08 (four from play) in the stunning win over Kerry in the O'Moore Park semi-final.

In the final against Kildare, he rattled home a goal within seconds of the throw-in, en route to a tally of 1-07, 1-04 coming from play.

As the Red Hand wrapped up their first title at the grade since 2015, the Errigal Ciaran boy wonder was never anything other than a shoo-in for the Player of the Year prize.
