Spurs latest news: Rodrigo Bentancur has already become an 'important signing' for Tottenham

Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge reckons that Rodrigo Bentancur has quickly become an “important” signing for Tottenham.

The Uruguayan international made the £21.5m switch from Juventus on deadline day and has made a promising start to his Premier League career.

Tottenham might have lost two of the three games that the midfielder has featured in, but the 24-year-old has already shown more than a glimpse of what he’s all about.

Just seconds into his Premier League debut against Southampton, Bentancur played an incredible raking ball out for Lucas Moura, highlighting exactly the kind of passing range that he has in his locker.

On his first top-flight start, Spurs were beaten 2-0 by Wolves, but the only outfield players to outperform him were Heung Min Son and Harry Kane. He managed two successful dribbles and played two key passes and certainly did himself justice with a 7.0 rating, despite the result.

In the victory over Manchester City on Saturday, Bentancur was given a worse rating (6.69), but mainly because Tottenham gave up possession and were forced to defend for the majority of the game, which prevented him from having the chance to influence proceedings.

Bentancur was still their fourth-best player, behind only Kane, Son and Dejan Kulusevski, the three players that were directly involved in the goals. His main contributions were his defensive work, but he also showed his ability to get forward, joining in with the attack for Kane’s missed chance and then played an inch-perfect pass for Kulusevski, who picked out the striker for the winner late on.
