Spurs boss Conte reveals frustration after Southampton loss
Tottenham boss Antonio Conte has called on his side to improve their mentality after collapsing to a late defeat by Southampton on Wednesday night.
Spurs put in an inconsistent display in north London that saw them take the lead via a first half Jan Bednarek own goal, only for the Saints to equalise five minutes later through Armando Broja.
The south coast side dominated much of the first half, but Spurs improved after the break and looked to be heading for victory when Son Heung-min converted with just 20 minutes left.
However in the space of 180 seconds, two James Ward-Prowse crosses were headed home by Mohamed Elyounoussi then Che Adams to complete a stunning comeback for the visitors.
It handed Conte his first home defeat in charge and also dented Spurs's bid for the top four, and left him admitting that every game remained a struggle to secure victory despite praising his team's work ethic and recent improvements.
'I know very well, and I repeat, in this season we are going to struggle to get three points,' Conte said.
'I said this before and I continue to repeat it. For sure we are improving in many aspects but we are still very emotional. Against Leicester we won 3-2 when we were losing, today we were winning 2-1 and lost 3-2.
'If we want to grow and try to be competitive as a team, the first thing you have to improve is stability. Not be up and down, up and down.
'This is a situation we have to improve. Also it is important to have players with experience to manage the situation during the game. It was a pity.
'My players gave 120 per cent today. Effort was maximum. I cannot say I didn't see the right attitude, the right commitment. I have seen the maximum commitment.
