Springboks heavy favourites to floor Wales - bookies

The Springboks are heavy favourites to beat Wales in Saturday's opening Test in Pretoria, if local bookmakers are to be believed.

The Welsh have never beaten the Boks in 10 Tests in South Africa, and according local booking agency, Betway, the status quo will remain this weekend.

They have the Boks as overwhelming favourites and are predicting at least a 10-12 point win.

The hosts can be backed at 1.06 odds, while you can make 11 times your money if you bet on Wales. A draw can be backed at 45/1 odds.

Wales' record at Loftus Versfeld is also nothing to write home about. The nations have met three times at the ground in the past, with the Boks boasting an average winning score of 62-17.

The first Test between the teams there was in 1998 when the Boks recorded their biggest-ever win over the Dragons with a 96-13 hammering. In 2004, South Africa won 53-18 and 37-21 in 2008.

In total, the Springboks and Wales have played 37 Tests, with South Africa winning 30, losing six and one game was drawn (6-6 in Cardiff in 1970).

In recent times, though, Wales have fared better by going on a four-game winning streak between 2016 and 2018.

The Boks have won the last two Tests - a 19-16 thriller at the 2019 World Cup in Japan and 23-18 in Cardiff last year.

Saturday's Test kicks off at 17:05.
