Across the pond in the US, a Premium subscription has gone up from $10 a month to $11 monthly. Duo plans have increased from $13 to $15 and Family plans have gone from $16 to $17. Student plans have also increased by $1, to $6 per month.

The streaming service, which has more than 200 million Premium subscribers, explained: "Existing Spotify Premium plan subscribers will be notified via email and given a one-month grace period before the new price becomes effective, unless they cancel before the grace period ends."

Spotify cited an evolving market as the reason for its price increase, adding: "So that we can keep innovating, we are changing our Premium prices across a number of markets* around the world. These updates will help us continue to deliver value to fans and artists on our platform."

Popular features include Spotify Wrapped, a yearly breakdown of customers most played songs, artists and genres, and Blend, which creates a unique playlist combining tracks from you and a chosen friend.

The platform is still offering a one month Premium trial for free for users who haven't tried Premium
