Southampton now 'interested' in signing 'unbelievable talent' at St Mary's

Southampton would take Chelsea defender Levi Colwill if given the opportunity to, claims talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.

With the west London club currently trying to recruit players in the 19-year-old’s position, his future at Stamford Bridge is now in doubt.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Colwill, who has been described as an “unbelievable talent”, is now likely to leave Chelsea permanently this window.

The above comes after the Blues signed Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli and entered talks with Paris Saint-Germain for Presnel Kimpembe.

As per The Athletic, discussions are taking place between the clubs as Thomas Tuchel eyes up a reunion with the Frenchman.

A deal for Nathan Ake, however, is now off, so that could increase the chances of Colwill staying and getting game time.

Crook has told GIVEMESPORT that Southampton are just one club who are ready to pounce if Chelsea decide to sell Colwill this summer.

Speaking to GMS, the talkSPORT reporter said: “He’s got a lot of interest. Southampton, Bournemouth, Brighton as well down on the south coast, they’d all take him.”

Colwill excelled in the Championship last season during his loan spell at Huddersfield Town, and that clearly did not go unnoticed.

He was easily one of the Terriers’ best performers, helping them to reach the play-off final. It, of course, ended in defeat against Nottingham Forest with Colwill scoring an own goal on the day, but the 6 ft 2 centre-back can still be pleased with how his campaign went.

The English youngster made 1.7 tackles per game, only Lewis O’Brien recorded a higher average (2.1) in Huddersfield’s squad, and 1.3 interceptions (via WhoScored). Again, he was also in the top two players for that category.

Speaking about
