Southampton have four fresh injury concerns ahead of Aston Villa

Southampton have been dealt four new injury concerns ahead of travelling to Villa Park on Saturday.

The Saints were in action in midweek against West Ham as goals from Romain Perraud, James Ward-Prowse and Armando Broja helped Ralph Hasenhuttl's side into the FA Cup quarter-finals.

However, the victory came at a cost as right-back Kyle Walker-Peters and striker Shane Long picked up injuries in the first half, while centre-back Mohammed Salisu and wide man Mohamed Elyounossi weren't risked due to training ground knocks.

Ahead of Villa this weekend, Hasenhuttl provided the latest team news update.

He said: "I don't know exactly how it looks. Longy [Shane Long] was brought off at half time, Kyle [Walker-Peters] had a little problem with his hamstring, that's the reason we subbed him.

"We have problems with Sali [Mohammed Salisu] with his hamstring and Moi [Elyounoussi] with his heel.

"A few issues, we will have a look and if they are ready for the weekend."

Walker-Peters and Salisu have been big players for the Saints this season and Hasenhuttl will be desperate to have them available come 3pm on Saturday.

The Austrian manager, meanwhile, confirmed that goalkeeper Alex McCarthy, defender Lyanco and forward Nathan Tella remain sidelined with injuries, taking Saints' current injury list to as many as seven first-team players.

On Villa, Hasenhuttl was asked about the club's spending power off given the £30million sale of Danny Ings last summer.

"In terms of financial strength, or whatever, [Villa] are investing more than we do," Hasenhuttl said.

"They took our best striker for a lot of money and they are very ambitious but we are also ambitious with our limits as a club.
