Southampton: £52k-a-week star could now be heading for St Mary's exit

Southampton striker Che Adams could still leave St Mary’s Stadium before the window closes, according to The Sun journalist Tom Barclay.

The £52,000 per-week ace’s future on the south coast has been up in the air recently following interest from several Premier League teams, and Barclay wouldn’t be surprised to see him moved on before 1 September.

According to the Daily Mail, the Scotland international is attracting interest from Everton, Wolves, Leeds, and Nottingham Forest.

The report claims that Everton, who are yet to replace Richarlison and have injury concerns over Dominic Calvert-Lewin, have ‘made a move’ to sign the frontman.

This comes after talkSPORT revealed that Southampton currently have ‘no interest’ in selling Adams, who’s scored 21 goals in 112 appearances since his move from Birmingham three years ago.

Ralph Hasenhuttl also confirmed that he won’t be leaving Saints before the window closes, but the Austrian manager left him out of the starting XI and then on the bench for the opening day defeat at Tottenham last weekend.

Adams could make his first competitive appearance of the season against Leeds this afternoon, but Barclay reckons the intense speculation means that it wouldn’t be a great surprise to see him exit the club.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I was surprised that he was left out and when players are left out like that and not even coming off the bench, it does seem like it might be going that way.

“It doesn’t seem like Southampton will be open to loaning him, but I just wouldn’t be surprised the way it’s going if Che Adams isn’t a Southampton player by the end of this window.”
