South Africans shining as Dakar Rally pushes riders, drivers to limits

As conditions continue to prove incredibly challenging, South Africa's contingent of riders and drivers are putting on a hugely impressive showing at the Dakar Rally.

At the end of Stage 6, with nearly 1 000 km now completed, Charan Moore continues to lead in the Original category and is 12 minutes ahead of Spain's Javi Vega in second.

In the T1+: Cross-Country 4x4 category, meanwhile, Henk Lategan and Brett Cummings are lying third having delivered an excellent showing on Friday.

"I think we’re more tired from yesterday and the day before. Today was not as hard as the few days before this, but it was still quite physical," Lategan said.

"There were a lot of blind drops in the dunes that were difficult to see. But we had a decent run and a clean stage."

Then, in the T1.2: Prototype Cross-Country 4x2 category, Brian Baragwanath and Leonard Cremer are lying second.

South African legend Giniel de Villiers is currently in 4th place in the overall car rankings.
