Mental health is a very very important subject, not just for athletes, but for every single one of us. It wasn't a big surprise then to see many, many fans react angrily to comments made by India's 1983 cricket World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev at an event recently. In a video that has gone viral, Kapil can be seen talking about "pressure" and "depression" in what many feel is a derogatory way, calling them "American words". "I hear a lot of times on TV these days, there's a lot of pressure, (we) play the IPL, so there's so much pressure. Then I only say one thing - don't play. What is pressure? If a player has passion, there will be no pressure. I can't understand these American words like pressure, depression. I don't understand these. I'm a farmer and we played to enjoy, and there can't be any pressure in enjoyment," Kapil said at the 'Chat with Champions' event.

Simranjeet Singh's 'mysterious' absence may prove unforgiving for India at Hockey World Cup

Before scoring the two goals in India's 5-4 win over Germany in the bronze-medal playoff, it was again Simranjeet who had helped India pick up the pieces in the pool stage after being thrashed by Australia 7-1. A late inclusion to the Tokyo Olympics squad as an 'Alternate Player' (standby), Simran watched the first two games from the stands of the Oi Hockey Stadium and received urgent summons, after the Aussie hammering, to be ready for the game against Spain. He scored the opening goal; but his versatility, dynamic movement with the ball and peripheral vision had a bigger impact.

Exclusive: 'Exciting times lie ahead, would love to be part of any World Cup team', says Shubman Gill

World Cup, scheduled to be held in India, Shubman Gill will in all probability be one of the first-choice picks. The 23-year-old's game is modelled perfectly for ODIs and Tests and it is very good to see him not being pushed into T20Is, despite him being a regular in the IPL. He is yet to play a T20I match. The tournament that someone like Shubman will be eyeing the most right now is of course the next edition of the ODI World Cup next year.

The two Test matches, which will be part of the World Test Championship, will be played at Karachi from December 27-31 and Multan from January 4-8. Karachi will also host the three ODIs from January 11-15 as part of ICC World Cup Super League. New Zealand will return to Pakistan in April and will play four Twenty20s at Karachi from April 13-19. Lahore will host the fifth T20 and two ODIs from April 23-28 and the remaining three ODIs will be played at Rawalpindi from May 1-7. New Zealand aborted its tour to Pakistan last year just hours before the first ODI in Rawalpindi because of an undisclosed security concern.
