Rohit Sharma - Virat Kohli's T20I future hangs in the balance - timesofindia.indiatimes.com - India - Sanju

Virat Kohli's T20I future hangs in the balance

Virat Kohli finds himself in a situation where he may have to fight hard to retain his place in the upcoming T20 World Cup in October. On Wednesday, the national selectors picked an ODI team for three matches in West Indies later this month. The team will be led by Shikhar Dhawan with Ravindra Jadeja as his deputy. Regular all-format captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah have all been rested. However, TOI understands that Rohit, Pant and Pandya are likely to travel with the team to the Caribbean for the subsequent fivematch T20I series. As for Kohli, his T20I future will depend on how he performs in the two T20Is and ODIs in England over the next 10 days. According to sources, the Indian team management and selectors are not clear about fitting Kohli in the T20I middle-order. “The T20I team has been withheld to evaluate the rest needed to be given to the top players. Rohit, Pant and Pandya are likely to play the T20Is in West Indies. Bumrah most likely will not be travelling to the Caribbean. As for Kohli, one needs to see what the team management decides on what it needs for the T20 World Cup. This limited-overs series in England is very crucial for Kohli,” a source said on Wednesday.

MS Dhoni turns 41: Cricket fraternity extends birthday wishes to former India captain

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who still commands a huge fan-following, turned 41 on Thursday, July 7. The Ranchi-based Dhoni, recognised as one of India's most successful captains, led the team to victories in the 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 ODI World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy apart from going on top of Test rankings in 2009. At the domestic level, he captained Chennai Super Kings to IPL titles in 2010, 2011, 2018 and 2021 apart from two now-defunct Champions League titles in 2010 and 2014. Dhoni is fondly remembered for his attacking stroke-play and keeping a calm head as a skipper in pressure situations, giving him the tag of 'captain cool'. He etched his name in the minds of cricket fans forever with his match-winning six off Nuwan Kulasekara in the final of the 2011 World Cup at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai to give India the trophy on home soil, ending a wait of 28 years to become ODI world champions again. In 538 matches in international cricket, Dhoni scored 17,266 runs, with 634 catches and 195 stumpings as a wicketkeeper. Currently, Dhoni, who retired from international cricket in 2020, is in the UK and celebrated his birthday with his friends and family, with India wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant joining in as well. He was also spotted watching Wimbledon matches in London on Wednesday. On social media, many former and current cricketers extended birthday wishes to Dhoni. Virat Kohli called Dhoni "a leader like no other". "A leader like no other. Thanks for everything you have done for Indian cricket. You became more like an elder brother for me. Nothing but love and respect always. Happy birthday skip @msdhoni," said Kohli in a tweet.

He is trying to play the ball early, says Sunil Gavaskar on Virat Kohli's latest batting failure

Virat Kohli's batting approach in the Edgbaston Test as the former India captain continues to struggle with the bat. Kohli scored 11 and 20 runs in the two innings in Edgbaston as England chased 378 in the fourth innings to win the match by seven wickets on the fifth and final day of the rescheduled fifth Test of the 2021 series as the hosts levelled the series 2-2.
