Diamond League meet win important for India, says Neeraj Chopra

The 24-year-old launched the winning throw with his first attempt and finished comfortably ahead of second-placed Jakub Valdeich (85.88m). His result also helped him qualify for the 2023 World Athletics Championships. Chopra was delighted to win on his comeback from a groin injury, which he picked up while bagging silver at the World Championships in Eugene and subsequently forced him to skip the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Labuschagne dropped as Australia opt for all-rounders against Zimbabwe

Aaron Finch said on Saturday that Australia plan to test a new structure that provides greater batting depth and more bowling options in their opening ODI against Zimbabwe, with Marnus Labuschagne dropped. Australia play three one-dayers against Zimbabwe in the northern Queensland city of Townsville from Sunday, followed by three against New Zealand in Cairns starting September 6. Finch confirmed an almost full-strength side, with the hosts welcoming back a number of players absent from their last match in Sri Lanka in June.

AIFF apologises to Gokulam Kerala, owner says 'inefficiency' of the federation cost club lakhs - timesofindia.indiatimes.com - Uzbekistan - India - Iran - Tashkent

AIFF apologises to Gokulam Kerala, owner says 'inefficiency' of the federation cost club lakhs

Gokulam Kerala, the reigning Indian Women's League champions, were the worst affected by the FIFA ban on the AIFF as the Kozhikode-based team was not allowed to compete in the top-tier AFC club competition in Uzbekistan. "It is like pinching the baby and rocking the cradle. Because of their inefficiency we lost lakhs," Praveen told PTI, hours after the ban on AIFF was lifted. The lifting of the ban on Friday will allow Indian national teams and clubs to play in competitions under the aegis of AFC and FIFA, but it was a huge loss for Gokulam Kerala as they missed out a chance to rub shoulders with the best sides in Asia. They had finished third in the last edition in 2021. The 23-member team was left stranded in Tashkent after arriving on August 16 ahead of its opening match against home side Sogdiana-W in Qarshi on August 23 and against Bam Khatoon FC of Iran in its next round-robin match on August 26. Gokulam Kerala have written to the AFC to reimburse the money spent on the travel of the players and support staff and on their their accommodation but yet to hear from the continental body. "We have sent mail requesting (for reimbursement) but no response yet (from the AFC)," Praveen said. The AIFF, on its part, apologised to Gokulam Kerala. "#IndianFootball is back on track again after FIFA lifted its suspension on AIFF on August 26," the AIFF tweeted on Saturday. "While we are happy with the turn of events, we are also extremely sorry for @GokulamKeralaFC's exit from the AFC Women's Club Championship due to the suspension," it added.

Asia Cup 2022, India vs Pakistan: India's old guard ready with new approach against 'unfamiliar' foes Pakistan

Pakistan in the marquee Asia Cup match here on Sunday. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been the two pillars of India's white-ball team for the past decade but having received a rude jolt at this very venue 10 months back during the T20 World Cup, the duo exactly know where they stand and what they need to do to turn the tables. While Rohit will be eagar to test his ultra aggressive batting template against the Asian giants, for Kohli it will be the perfect platform to return to form after enduring a tough phase in the last few years.

Asia Cup 2022: Was not able to get that high intensity naturally, pushed myself to do it, says Virat Kohli

Asia Cup clash at the Dubai International Stadium will see the resumption of the 'greatest rivalry' in the world of cricket when India and Pakistan open their Group A campaign. It will also mark talismanic India batter Virat Kohli's 100th T20I appearance, and his first international match since playing in the third ODI against England on July 17. Now, on the verge of his return to the Indian team after a break of a month-and-a-half, Kohli has admitted that his high intensity on the ground was not coming out naturally.

Asia Cup 2022, India vs Pakistan - SWOT analysis of all departments

Pakistan is now restricted to just multi-nation events. In many ways, because it's become a rarity now, an India vs Pakistan cricket match is a more eagerly anticipated encounter these days. In the previous contest that took place between the arch-rivals during the T20 World Cup last year in the UAE, Pakistan beat India by 10 wickets in a Super-12 fixture and as the two countries get set for another round of mouth-watering battles in the upcoming Asia Cup 2022, which will be played in the T20 format, India will be looking to bounce back strong. On paper, the Men in Blue are a far stronger and well-balanced side than Pakistan. Since the T20 World Cup last year, quite a few things have changed, especially for Team India. New skipper Rohit Sharma's aggressive approach in the shortest format will be up for a stiff test while Pakistan, who have only played 3 T20I series since that 2021 clash vs India, will be looking to get back in the groove ahead of this year's T20 World Cup. With the teams ranked World number 1 (India) and 3 (Pakistan) getting ready to lock horns on Sunday (August 28), TimesofIndia.com here compares the strengths of both the teams across all the departments which are likely to be match-winning factors: Top-orderIndia:Over the years, one of the key highlights of an India-Pakistan clash has been the face-off between India batters and the Pakistan fast bowlers. Barring a handful of aberrations, the Indian top-order has been one of the most feared in world cricket. Pakistan, on the other hand, in the last few years have made remarkable improvements in their batting and today carry one of the most flamboyant top-order batters in their line-up.

India vs Pakistan, Asia Cup 2022: Virat Kohli set to become first Indian to play 100 matches in all formats

Pakistan in Dubai on Sunday to start their Asia Cup 2022 campaign, star batter Virat Kohli will represent the country in his 100th T20I match, becoming the first Indian player to feature in hundred or more matches in each format of the game internationally. In 99 T20I so far, Kohli has scored 3,308 runs at an average of 50.12. His best knock in T20Is is 94 not out and he has scored 30 half-centuries. Kohli stepped down from the T20I captaincy last year and was later relieved from his captaincy duties in the ODIs and Tests as well, as Rohit Sharma took over the team's command.
