Villarreal Edge Girona To Maintain Champions League Push

Villarreal maintained their push for Champions League football next season with a late 1-0 win at Girona on Saturday in La Liga. The Yellow Submarine, fifth, with the top five qualifying, needed an 89th-minute header from Karl Etta Eyong to snatch victory at the Montilivi against a struggling Girona side. The Catalans were without coach Michel Sanchez as he is under observation in hospital as a "precaution", Girona said Friday, against an undisclosed ailment. Villarreal dominated the game but only found a breakthrough when Alfonso Pedraza's cross found Cameroon-born midfielder Eyong.

From 192/0 To 192/10: All 10 Players Retire Out, Win Match By 163 Runs

The cricketing world saw a bizarre incident on Saturday when United Arab Emirates (UAE) women's team squared off against Qatar in the Women's T20 World Cup, Asia Qualifiers 2025 match. Opting to bat, UAE posted a good score of 192 with openers Esha Rohit Oza (113) and Theertha Satish (74) stitching an unbeaten partnership. However, something very unusual took place after that as the entire UAE team got retired out and gave a target of 193 to Qatar. This was the first time in the history of cricket that all the players of a team got retired out.

Virat Kohli Test Retirement Plans Revealed: Reports Says 'Having These Conversations For...'

Indian batting legend Virat Kohli has communicated to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) about his intention to retire from Test cricket, reported ESPNCricinfo on Saturday. This report comes just two days after batter and his long-time teammate Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from whites and just over a month before India kickstarts its ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 campaign against England with a five-match series, starting at Headingley from June 20 onwards. As per ESPNCricinfo, Virat has been having such conversations with the board over the past month or so. If Virat indeed retires, it would mark the end of an illustrious Test career of 14 years, during which he made 9,230 runs in 123 Tests at an average of 46.85, with 30 centuries. He is also India's most successful Test captain ever, having won 40 out of 68 Tests with the armband.

Carlos Alcaraz, Aryna Sabalenka Cruise To Wins At Italian Open

Carlos Alcaraz kicked off his bid for a first Italian Open title by cruising past Serbian qualifier Dusan Lajovic 6-3, 6-3 in Rome on Friday. World number three Alcaraz got past Lajovic in one hour and 23 minutes on his return to action following a thigh injury suffered in his Barcelona Open final defeat to Holger Rune last month. The Spaniard showed some signs of ring rustiness with 22 unforced errors but still managed to win the first four games of the match to give Lajovic too much to do in the first set. And Alcaraz closed out the match in professional style with another quick start in the second set which put him three games ahead, allowing him to serve out for the win.

Harry Kane Tastes First Title As Champions Bayern Munich Bid Farewell To Thomas Mueller

Harry Kane opened the scoring ahead of lifting his first career silverware as Bayern Munich beat Borussia Moenchengladbach 2-0, with veteran Thomas Mueller playing his last home game for the club. Bayern officially won the title on Sunday when defending champions Bayer Leverkusen were held to a 2-2 draw at Freiburg, but were presented with the Bundesliga shield in front of their home fans at full-time. Dripping wet after being showered with beer by teammates, Kane said the title win was "an incredible feeling," and hoped it would be "the first of many".

Jannik Sinner Grateful For 'Amazing' Support On Italian Open Return From Doping Ban

Jannik Sinner hailed the passionate backing he has received from his colourful support in Rome after returning to tennis on Saturday with a confident win at the Italian Open. World number one Sinner swept past Mariano Navone in front of over 10,000 fans at the Foro Italico, looking nothing like a player who has spent three months out of the game due to a doping ban he says he grudgingly accepted from the World Anti-Doping Agency. The Italian was roared on by fans dressed as carrots and decked out in orange in honour of his ginger hair, as he beat Navone in straight sets 6-3, 6-4.

Fallen Hamburg Return To Bundesliga After Seven-Year Absence

Fallen German giants Hamburg won automatic promotion to the Bundesliga after a seven-year absence with a 6-1 home thumping of lowly Ulm on Saturday. As the full-time whistle went, fans in the 57,000-strong Volksparkstadion stormed the pitch to celebrate with the players. One of only three German clubs to win the European Cup, the precursor to the Champions League, and a six-time league champion, Hamburg were relegated for the first time in their history in 2018. Coming into the game needing a victory to guarantee promotion, Hamburg fell behind after seven minutes when Ulm's Tom Gaal scored, but hit back three minutes later through Ludovit Reis.

"One Of Those Days": Atletico Madrid Record-Breaker Alexander Sorloth Hits Four

Alexander Sorloth hit four goals in the first half-an-hour to power Atletico Madrid to a 4-0 win over Real Sociedad on Saturday in La Liga. The Norwegian hitman's quadruple helped Atletico tighten their grip on third place, while La Real slump to 12th. Sorloth completed a hat-trick in the opening 11 minutes, the earliest in La Liga history, beating trebles netted by the 15th minute in 1929 and 1941 by Europa's Carles Bestit and Valencia's Mundo, respectively. "It's a good feeling and I just had one of those days today," Sorloth told DAZN.
