Ravi Shastri Calls For Promotion Of Nitish Reddy In Batting Order

Impressed by Nitish Reddy's sensational maiden century, former coach Ravi Shastri on Saturday advocated for his promotion in the batting order, suggesting that a top-six position would provide better balance to India going into the fifth and final Test. The 21-year-old Reddy showed tremendous grit, scoring a dogged 105 not out at number 8 to virtually bail India out on the third day of the Boxing Day Test. "I feel that the way he's batted, this is the last time he will bat at 7," Shastri told Star Sports. "To get the balance of the side, you need him to go higher up the order, either 5 or 6 and then you have the opportunity of playing 5 bowlers to take the 20 wickets, and he's given that kind of confidence to the selectors and the team management and the captain." India's batting has looked brittle, especially with skipper Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Rishabh Pant struggling to score runs in the five-Test series so far.

Inspired By Mohammed Siraj, Now Babar Azam Takes Up 'Bail-Switching' Trend

A new phenomenon seems to have taken over the world of cricket. Once started by Stuart Broad, the act of switching bails as a form of superstition to change the luck towards yourself has been a tactic now employed by both India and Australia during the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25. Now, it seems as if Pakistan stalwart Babar Azam has caught on to the trend, doing a bail-switch during the first Test between Pakistan and South Africa at Centurion.

1st Test: Mohammad Abbas, Khurram Shahzad Rock South Africa At Start Of Chase

Pakistan opening bowlers Mohammad Abbas and Khurram Shahzad struck three blows late on the third afternoon as South Africa set out in pursuit of 148 runs to win the first Test at SuperSport Park on Saturday. South Africa were reeling at 27 for three at the close, 121 runs short of a victory which would clinch them a place in the World Test championship final in England next June. Abbas took two wickets for three runs in four immaculate overs of swing bowling, dismissing Tony de Zorzi and Tristan Stubbs, while Shahzad trapped Ryan Rickelton.

"Decision Seemed...": Viswanathan Anand Opens Up On Magnus Carlsen's Disqualification From Chess Event

Five-time world champion Viswanathan Anand said FIDE didn't want to disqualify Magnus Carlsen from the World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championship, but the Norwegian left them with no choice after refusing to follow the rules. Defending champion Carlsen was fined USD 200 for wearing jeans, which are "explicitly prohibited" under tournament regulations and when he refused the request by chief arbiter Alex Holowczak to change his attire right after the eighth round, he was disqualified. He was not paired for Round 9 of the Rapid championship, taking place at Wall Street.

Watch: Sam Konstas Teases India Fans At MCG, Mimics Shoulder-Barge Incident With Virat Kohli

The shoulder-barging incident between Sam Konstas and Virat Kohli has been one of the most controversial moments of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25, resulting in a 20 per cent match fee fine for Virat Kohli along with one ICC demerit point. Now, Sam Konstas has used the incident to fuel banter with the Indian fans present at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). While fielding on Day 3 of the fourth Test, Konstas walked up towards Indian fans and mimicked a shoulder-barge action in front of them.

Pep Guardiola Won't Quit Troubled Manchester City

Pep Guardiola insists he will not walk out on troubled Manchester City as he strives to stop the champions' stunning decline. Guardiola only recently signed a two-year contract extension but City's dismal form has raised questions about his future at the Etihad Stadium. A nightmare run of nine defeats in 13 games, with just one win in that woeful spell, triggered suggestions the City boss could decide to quit if he cannot find an answer to his team's problems. But, having led City to six Premier League titles in the past seven seasons, Guardiola is adamant he still has the hunger to turn the situation around.
