Duleep Trophy Goes Back To Traditional Inter-Zonal Format Within One Year Of Change

The BCCI Apex Council on Saturday decided to re-introduce the traditional inter-zonal format for the Duleep Trophy -- the first class tournament for six regions. Last year, the Ajit Agarkar-led national selection committee had picked squads on the basis of players' performance in the Ranji Trophy, where 38 domestic teams competed. However, North, South, East, West, Central and North-East Zones will now compete for the Duleep Trophy title instead of A, B, C and D teams competing in Challenger Trophy format.

Sanju Samson on Saturday conceded that missing the first three IPL matches of this season "feels a bit different" but placed his trust on stand-in skipper Riyan Parag to guide Rajasthan Royals well in his absence. Samson is yet to recover completely from a right index finger injury that he suffered during the series against England. "I have never missed a game as a complete player. Coming to the season as not fully fit feels a bit different. But the team looks good. We are also happy to have Rahul Dravid back with us," said Samson here on the eve of the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

India will host the West Indies after 12 years in a two-match Test series in October while South Africa will arrive in the country for an all-format tour in November. India will take on the Windies in the first Test at Mohali from October 2, while the second Test will be held at Eden Gardens in Kolkata from October 10, the BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla informed PTI. The West Indies' previous Test tour to India was in 2013-14, which was also the final international outing for batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar. The Caribbeans' last visit to India was in 2022 for three ODIs and as many T20Is.
