Rohit Sharma will have one more chance to lead India to glory when the side gets down to action at the T20 World Cup 2024 next month. Under Rohit Sharma, the Indian cricket team qualified for the final of the ICC World Test Championship final and the ODI Cricket World Cup final in 2023. India lost both the title clashes. Now, Rohit will be eyeing redemption in the shortest format. Before the marquee event, Rohit Sharma took part in an interesting discussion where he touched upon various aspects of his international career including taking over the Indian cricket team captaincy from Virat Kohli.
The race for the IPL 2024 playoffs is heating with two remaining spots up for grabs. So far, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) have booked their spots as two of the top four teams in the league phase. That leaves five teams - Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, SunRisers Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals, and Lucknow Super Giants - fighting for the remaining two spots. KKR currently top the table with 19 points from 13 matches, and could consolidate their place at the summit if they beat RR in their last league match. RR, on the other hand, aren't assured of a top two finish just yet.
Hearing and visually-impaired cricket fans can look forward to an Indian Sign Language (ISL) and audio descriptive feed during next month's T20 World Cup in the Americas with official broadcasters Disney Hotstar and Star Sports Network announcing special telecast arrangements. This will be applicable for 10 matches including all the India games, semi-finals and finals. The broadcaster said that this is the first time that the T20 World Cup will be telecast with sign language and descriptive commentary making "cricket more immersive for its deaf, hard-of-hearing and visually-impaired users."
There have been rumours of a possible rift between Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya ever since the latter was appointed captain of the Mumbai Indians (MI) ahead of IPL 2024. Hardik had replaced Rohit as MI captain after rejoining the franchise from Gujarat Titans (GT) during the trade window. However, it is safe to say that the move has backfired as MI are already out of the IPL 2024 playoffs contention. Also, Hardik's performance this season has been mediocre to say the least.
Usain Bolt knows all about life in fast lane and it wasn't a surprise when he picked T20 as his favourite form of cricket, a sport that's in his "blood" thanks to a passionate follower in his father. Bolt, one of the greatest athletes of all time with eight Olympic gold medals to his credit, wanted to become a fast bowler growing up in Jamaica and now as the ambassador for next month's ICC T20 World Cup, he is finally getting to live a cricket dream.
Paris Saint-Germain brushed aside the absence of the departing Kylian Mbappe to beat Nice 2-1 in Ligue 1 on Wednesday and scupper their opponents' hopes of qualifying for the Champions League. Mbappe, who will leave PSG when his contract expires at the end of the season, sat out the trip due to discomfort in his left hamstring, while Ousmane Dembele, Achraf Hakimi and Randal Kolo Muani were also missing. Bradley Barcola put PSG ahead in the 18th minute before defender Yoram Zague celebrated his 18th birthday by scoring his first goal for the French champions in only his fourth senior appearance.
India great and former RCB captain Virat Kohli has spilled beans on his post-retirement plans, saying that he would take a long break after he done playing cricket. Kohli, who made his India debut in 2008, is regarded by many as the greatest batter of his generation. Kohli, 35, continues to inspire budding cricketers with his tremendous fitness and consistency to score runs at the highest level. In a recent chat with his IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Kohli suggested that as a sportsperson he doesn't want to have any regrets once he done playing the game.
