Up Against China, India Table Tennis Star Harmeet Desai Says India 'Can Beat Any Team'

Having played an important role in India clinching gold medals in the team competition in the 2018 and 2022 Commonwealth Games, star Indian paddler Harmeet Desai believes India has the ability to upset any team at the Olympic Games in Paris. On Thursday, he insisted that the team's preparation was well on track to perform at their optimum best in the French capital. The Indian TT contingent made history earlier this year when both the men's and women's teams qualified for the Olympics for the first time and the preparatory camps, in Bengaluru from June 7-16 and in Saarbrucken, Germany earlier this month, were focused on working out the perfect combinations for the team events at the Paris Olympics, scheduled from July 26 to August 11.

Gautam Gambhir Wanted This Youngster For Sri Lanka Tour. Report Reveals Why He Missed Out

Indian cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir wanted Tilak Varma for the T20I and ODI series against Sri Lanka but the youngster missed out due to injury, according to a report by Times of India. Tilak has been out of action since Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 due to hand injury. The report claimed that his absence was a big boost for Riyan Parag who was included in the squads for both formats. "TOI has learnt that Riyan Parag's selection for both the white-ball squads for the Sri Lanka tour was helped by the fact that middle-order batsman Tilak Varma is currently injured," the Times of India reported.

"If You Keep Changing...": Shahid Afridi Launches Scathing Attack On PCB

The Pakistan cricket team had a horrible outing at the T20 World Cup 2024 as the Babar Azam-led side crashed out of the competition in the group stages. They slumped to a shocking loss against the United States before losing once again against traditional rivals India. Pakistan did win their remaining two matches against Canada and Ireland but it was too little too late for them. The result sparked a huge backlash from the fans and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) went on to make big changes in the support staff. Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq were sacked as selectors while Babar's future remains unclear.

Threat Of Missiles, Fear For Death: How Ukraine Athletes Trained For Paris Olympics 2024

The fear of death has been a constant in an average Ukrainian's life ever since the war with Russia broke out in 2022 and that includes the majority of the country's 143-strong athlete contingent here for the Olympics beginning on Friday. Even in normal circumstances, the pressure to perform on the biggest sporting stage can take a toll on the best in the business. In the case of Ukrainian athletes, it's hard to imagine how they were able to train for the mega-event with missile attacks and air sirens becoming a part of their lives for the past 29 months.
