Defending Asian and Commonwealth Games champions in men's doubles, the former World No.1 pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will start their Paris Olympics campaign against the French duo of Lucas Corvee and Ronan Labar later in the day. The Indian long-jumper Murali Sreeshankar feels that the duo has the best chance of returning home with a medal. Rankireddy and Shetty are India's top medal prospects in badminton along with two-time Olympic medallist P.V Sindhu. Sindhu is hoping to become the first Indian sportsperson to win medals in three successive Olympic Games editions.
India's Schedule At Paris Olympics 2024 Day 2: The second day of the Paris Olympics medal events is a big one for India. Shooter Manu Bhaker will be competing in the 10m air pistol women's final. The women archers will be playing in the quarter-finals. Those two are the medal events for India on Sunday. Apart from that two big names - three big names - PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy (Badminton) and Nikhat Zareen (Boxing) will be in action. In archery, Ankita Bhakat, Bhajan Kaur, and Deepika Kumari will be competing in the women's team event.
India's top pistol shooter Manu Bhaker will go for gold in the Women's 10m Air Pistol Final while two-time medallist P.V Sindhu will open her campaign in the hunt for an unprecedented medal in third successive Games, on the second day of competitions in Paris on Sunday. While Manu Bhaker will take her first shot in the final scheduled to start at 15.30 IST on Sunday, two-time World Champion Nikhat Zareen will open her campaign in the Women's 50kg boxing against Maxi Carina Kloetzer of Germany in a first-round bout scheduled at 15:50 IST.
A supremely confident Manu Bhaker was at the top of her game as she entered the 10m women's air pistol final, salvaging the day for Indian shooting after an underwhelming start by her compatriots in the Olympic Games on Saturday. The 22-year-old Bhaker shot 580 to finish third in the qualifications in which Hungarian ace Veronika Major claimed the top spot with a score of 582.
India's Chef de Mission Gagan Narang on Saturday consoled shooter Sarabjot Singh who failed to make it to the final round of the men's 10m air pistol event here. Sarabjot and Arjun Singh Cheema sparkled in patches but could not make it to the men's 10m air pistol final. While Sarabjot finished ninth with a total score of 577 in the qualifications, Arjun ended way behind at 18th with 574.
India's newly-appointed T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav began his journey as the full-time skipper of the team in emphatic fashion, winning the first match of the series quite convincingly. Suryakuma's Team India beat the Lankans by 43 runs after putting a whopping total of 213/7 on the board, with the skipper leading from the front. Surya scored 58 runs off 26 balls during his stay in the middle, and was pivotal in dictating the tempo of the game. Even as a skipper Surya gave a fine example of his strategic mindset, helping the team begin the tour on a winning note. As a result, Surya was named the Player of the Match, with the honour enabling him to match Virat Kohli's world record.

Recently, Suryakumar Yadav was preferred over Pandya as India's captain in T20Is for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka, as chief selector Ajit Agarkar "wanted someone who was likely to be available more often." "This champion all-rounder (Pandya) has got as many skills as anyone. He's probably in a similar ability-zone as someone like Ben Stokes. He's got much more talent than that (his recent performances)," Styris told PTI Videos in an interview.
